Immersed In Our World

From bloggers.com

In the beginning was the Word,
And the Word was with God
and the Word was God;
he was in the beginning with God.

All things were made through him,
and without him nothing came to be.
Whatever has come to be, found life in him;
life, which for human beings, was also light,
light that shines in darkness,
light that darkness could not overcome.

A man came, sent by God;
his name was John.
He came to bear witness,
as a witness to introduce the Light,
so that all might believe through him.
He was not the Light,
but a witness to introduce the Light;

for the Light was coming into the world,
the true Light that enlightens everyone.
He was in the world,
and through him the world was made,
the very world that did not know him.

He came to his own,
yet his own people did not receive him;
but to all who received him,
he empowers to become children of God,
for they believe in his Name.
These are born, but not by seed,
or carnal desire, nor by the will of man:
they are born of God.

And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us;
and we have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father;
fulness of truth and loving-kindness.

John bore witness to him openly, saying,
"This is the one who comes after me,
but he is already ahead of me,
for he was before me."

From his fullness we have all received,
favor upon favor.
For God had given us the Law through Moses,
but Truth and Loving-kindness came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God,
but God-the-only-Son made hime known;
the one, who is in and with the Father.

John 1:1-18

"Lord, thank You for being one with me.  Dwell in my heart today."

A Tribute To Dad And Mom

From www.planetfassa.com

For the Lord established that children should respect their father;  he confirmed the right of the mother over her children.

Whoever honors his father atones for his sins;  he who gives glory to his mother prepares a treasure for himself.

Whoever honors his father will receive joy from his own children and will be heard when he prays.

Whoever glorifies his father will have a long life.  Whoever obeys the Lord gives comfort to his mother.

My child, ale care of your father in his old age, do not cause him sorrow as long as he lives.

Even if he has lost his mind, have patience;  do not be disrespectful to him while you are in full health.

For kindness done to one's father will never be forgotten, it will serve as reparation for your sins.

Sirach 3:2-6,12-14

"Lord, remind me of the gift of life that I now enjoy because of the decision of my parents to have and love me in their own imperfect way.  May I always be grateful for the gift of love and family."

Graciousness Wins

From winterzzz.blogspot.com

How can we know that we know him?  If we fulfill his commands.

If you say, "I know him," bud to not fulfill his commands, you are a liar and the truth is not in you.  But if you keep his word, God's love is made complete in you.  This is how we know that we are in him:

he who claims to live in him must live as he lived.

My dear friends, I am not writing you a new commandment, but reminding you of an old one, one you had from the beginning.  This old commandment is the word you have heard.

But, in a way, I give it as a new commandment that is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light already shines.

If you claim to be in the light but hate your brother, you are still in darkness.

If you love your brothers and sisters, you remain in the light and nothing in you will make you fall.  But if you hate your brother you are in the dark and walk in darkness without knowing where you go, for the darkness has blinded you.

1 John 2:3-11

"Give me a heart to accept things as they come and let graciousness reign in me.  Thank You, Lord, for training me to be like You."

A Light In The Dark

We heard his message from him and announce it to you:  God is light and there is no darkness in him.

If we say we are in fellowship with him, while we walk in darkness, we lie instead of being in truth.  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we are in fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, the Son of God, purifies us from all sin.

If we say, "We have no sin," we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all wickedness.

If we say that we do not sin, we make God a liar, his word is not in us.

My little children, I write to you that you may not sin.  But if anyone sins, we have an intercessor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Just One.  He is the sacrificial victim for our sins and the sins of the whole world.

1 John 1:5-2:2

"Father, admonish us when we stray.  Be our guide always.  Where there is darkness, be our Light."

Good News

This is what has been from the beginning, and what we have heard and have seen with our own eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, I mean the Word who is Life...

The Life made itself known, we have seen Eternal Life and we bear witness, and we are telling you of it.  It was with the Father and made himself known to us.

So we tell you what we have seen and heard, that you may be in fellowship with us, and us, with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

And we write this that our joy may be completed.

1 John 1:1-4

"Lord, lead me to tell others about You today.  Give me the strength and boldness to share the great things You have done in my life.  Amen."

In The Driver's Side

From esheninger.blogspot.com

Be on your guard with people, for they will hand you over to their courts, and they will flog you in their synagogues.  You will be brought to trial before rulers and kings because of me, so you may witness to them and the pagans.

But when you are arrested, do not worry about what you are to say, or how you are to say it;  when the hour comes, you will be given what you are to say.  For it is not you who will speak, but the Spirit of your Father in you.

Brother will hand over brother to death, and a father his child;  children will turn against their parents and have them put to death.  Everyone will hate you because of me, but whoever stands firm to the end will be saved.

Matthew 10:17-22

"Lord, give me Your strength as I stand firm against the daily temptations that threaten to separate me from You."

Our Christmas Story

From www.jackieloi.com

Zechariah, filled with holy spirit, sang this canticle,

"Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
for he has come and redeemed his people.
In the house of David his servant,
he has raised up for us a victorious Savior;
as he promised through his prophets of old,
salvation fro m our enemies
and from the hand of our foes.
He has shown mercy to our fathers;
and remembered his holy covenant.
the oath he swore to Abraham, our father,
to deliver us from the enemy,
that we might serve him fearlessly,
as a holy and righteous people,
all the days of our lives.
And you, my child,
shall be called prophet of the Most High,
for you shall go before the Lord
to prepare the way for him,
and to enable his people to know of their salvation,
when he comes to forgive their sins.
This is the work of the mercy of our God,
who comes from on high as a rising sun,
shining on those who live in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
and guiding our feet into the way of peace."

Be Still

From blogs.graceuniversity.edu

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, so small that you are hardly named among the clans of Judah, from you shall I raise the one who is to rule over Israel.  For he comes forth from of old, from the ancient times.

Yahweh, therefore, will abandon Israel until such time as she who is to give birth has given birth.  Then the rest of his deported brothers will return to the people of Israel.

He will stand and shepherd his flock with the strength of Yahweh, in the glorious Name of Yahweh, his God.  They will live safely while he wins renown to the ends of the earth.  He shall be peace.

When the Assyrian invades our land
and sets foot on our territory,
we will raise against him
not one but seven shepherds,
eight warlords.
They will rule Assyria with the sword,
and Babylonia with the bared blade.
He will deliver us from the Assyrians
when they come into our land,
when they set foot within our borders.

Magnificat After Fiat

From www.sjparish.org

And Mary said,

"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit exults in God my saviour!
He has looked upon his servant in her lowliness,
ad people forever will call me blessed.

The Mighty One has done great things for me,
Holy is his Name!
From age to age his mercy extends,
to those who live in his presence.

He has acted with power and done wonders,
and scattered the proud with their plans,
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and lifted up those who are downtrodden.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
but has sent the rich away empty.

He held out, his hand to Israel, his servant,
for he remembered his mercy,
even as he promised to our fathers,
to Abraham and his descendants forever."

Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months, and then returned home.

Mary Believed

From crossandblood.com

Mary then set out for a town in the hill country of Judah.  She entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.  When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leapt in her womb.  Elizabeth was filled with holy spirit, and giving a loud cry, said, "You are most blessed among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!  How is it that the mother of my Lord comes to me?  The moment your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby within me suddenly leapt for joy.  Blessed are you who believed that the Lord's word would come true!"

Mary And Me

From www.artcyclopedia.com

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth. He was sent to a young virgin,w ho was betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the family of David;  and the virgin's name was Mary.

The angel came to her and said, "Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you."  Mary was troubled at these words, wondering what this greeting could mean.

But the angel said, "Do not fear, Mary, for God has looked kindly on you.  You shall conceive and bear a son, and you shall call him Jesus.  He will be great, and shall rightly be called Son of the Most High.  The Lord God will give him the kingdom of David, his ancestor;  he will rule over the people of Jacob forever, and his reign shall have no end."

Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?"  And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you;  therefore, the holy child to be born of you shall be called Son of God.  Even your relative Elizabeth is expecting a son in her old age, although she was unable to have a child;  and she is now in her sixth month.  With God nothing is impossible."

Then Mary said, "I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me as you have said."  And the angel left her.

Bundle Of Joy

From www.thewordheardaroundtheworld.com

In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there lived a priest names Zechariah, belonging to the priestly clan of Abiah, Elizabeth, Zechariah's wife, also belonged to a priestly family.  Both of them were upright in the eyes of God, and lived blamelessly in accordance with all the laws and commands of the Lord, but they had no child.  Elizabeth could not have any and now they were both very old.

Now, while Zechariah and those with him were fulfilling their office, it fell to him by lot, according to the custom of the priests, to enter the sanctuary of the Lord and burn incense.  At the time of offering incense, all the people were praying outside;  it was then that an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the alter of incense.  On seeing the angel, Zechariah was deeply troubled and fear took hold of him.

But the angel said to him, "Don't be afraid, Zechariah, be assured that your prayer has been heard.  Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son and you shall name him John.  He will bring joy and gladness to you, and many will rejoice at his birth.

This son of yours will be great in the eyes of the Lord.  Listen:  he shall never drink wine or strong drink, but he will be filled with holy spirit even from his mother's womb.  Through him, many of the people of Israel will turn to the Lord their God.  He himself will open the way to the Lord with the spirit and power of the prophet Elijah;  he will reconcile fathers and children, and lead the disobedient to wisdom and righteousness, in order to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

Zechariah said to the angel, "How can I believe this?  I am an old man and my wife is elderly, too."  The angel replied, "I am Gabriel, who stands before God, and I am the one sent to speak to you,and to bring you this good news!  My words will come true in their time.  But you would not believe, and now you will be silent and unable to speak until this has happened."

Meanwhile, the people waited for Zechariah, and they were surprised that he delayed so long in the sanctuary.  When he finally appeared, he could not speak to them, and they realised that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary.  He remained dumb and made signs to them.

When his time of service was completed, Zechariah returned home, and some time later Elizabeth became pregnant.  For five months she kept to herself, remaining at home, and thinking.  "This, for me, is the Lord's doing!  This is his time for mercy, and for taking away my public disgrace."

Justice On Time

From my.opera.com

Yahweh further says, "The day is coming when I will raise up a king who is David's righteous successor.  He will rule wisely and govern with justice and righteousness.  That will be a grandiose era when Judah will enjoy peace and Israel will live in safety.  He will be called Yahweh-our-justice!"

"The days are coming," says Yahweh, "when people shall no longer swear by Yahweh as the living God who freed the people of Israel from the land of Egypt.  Rather, they will wear by Yahweh as the living God who restored the descendants of Israel from the northern empire and from all the lands where he had driven them, to live again in their own land!"

Back To Basics

From www.touristlink.com

The people asked him, "What are we to do?"  And John answered, "If you have two coats, give one to the person who has none;  and if you have food, do the same."

Even tax collectors came to be baptized, and asked him, "Master, what must we do?"  Jon said to them, "Collect no more than your fixed rate."  People serving as soldiers asked John, "What about us?  What are we to do?"  And he answered, "Don't take anything by force, or threaten the people by denouncing them falsely.  Be content with your pay."

The people were wondering about John's identity, "Could he be the Messiah?"  THen John answered them, "I baptise you with water, but the one who is coming will do much more:  he will baptise you with Holy Spirit and fire.  As for me, "I am not worthy to untie his sandal.  He comes with a winnowing fan to clear his threshing floor and gather the grain into is barn.  But the chaff he will burn with fire that never goes out."

With these and many other words John announced the Good News to the people.

Your Destiny

From www.yourcommonwealth.org

Then came the prophet Elijah like a fire, his words a burning torch.

He brought a famine on the people and in his zealous love had them reduced in number.

Speaking in the name of the Lord he closed the heavens, and on three occasions called down fire.

How marvelous you were, Elijah, in your wondrous deeds!  Who could ever boast of being your equal?

You were taken up by a whirlwind of flames in a chariot drawn by fiery horses.

It was written that you should be the one to calm God's anger in the future before it broke out in fury, to turn the hearts of fathers to their sons and to restore the tribes of Jacob.

Happy are those who will see you and those who die in love, for we too shall live.

Of Violence And Peace

From iknit.org.uk

I tell you this:  no one greater than John the Baptist has come forward from among the sons of women, and yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.  From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven is something to be conquered and violent men seize it.

Up to the time of John, there was only prophesy:  all the prophets and the Law.  And if you believe me, John is that Elijah, whose coming was predicted.  Let anyone with ears listen!

Lost And Found

What do you think of this?  If someone has a hundred sheep and one of them strays, won't he leave the ninety-nine on the hillside, and go to look for the stray one?  And I tell you;  when he finally finds its, he is more pleased about it than about the ninety-nine that did not get lost.  It is the same way with your Father in heaven:  your Father in heaven doesn't want even one of these little ones to be lost.

Simple Christmas Joy

Let the wilderness and the arid land rejoice,
the desert be glad and blossom.
Covered with flowers, it sings and shouts with joy,
adorned with the splendor of Lebanon,
the magnificence of Carmel and Sharon.
They, my people, see the glory of Yahweh,
the majesty of our God.

Give vigour to weary hands
and strength to enfeebled knees.
Say to those who are afraid:
"Have courage, do not fear.
See, your God comes, demanding justice.
He is the God who rewards
the God who comes to save you."

Then will the eye of the blind be opened
and the ears of the deaf unsealed.
Then will the lame leap as a hart
and the tongue of the dumb sing and shout.
For water will break out in the wilderness
and streams gush forth from the desert.
The thirsty ground will become a pool,
te arid land springs of water.
In the haunts where once reptiles lay,
grass will grow with reeds and rushes.

There will be a highway
which will be called The Way of Holiness;
no one unclean will pass over it
nor any wicked fool stray there.
No lion will be found there
nor any beast of prey.
Only the redeemed will walk there.
For the ransomed of Yahweh will return:
with everlasting joy upon their heads,
the will come to Zion singing,
gladness and joy marching with them,
while sorrow and sighing flee away.

Isaiah 35:1-10

"Lord, help me to bring joy and glad tidings to those who are oppressed."

Prepare The Way

From www.livinggraceomaha.org

It was the fifteenth year of the rule of the Emperor Tiberius;  Pontius Pilate was governor of Judas;  Herod ruled over Galilee, his brother Philip ruled over the country of Iturea and Trachonitis;  and Lysanias rule over Abilene.  Annas and Caiaphas were the High Priests at that time, when the word o God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the desert.

John proclaimed a baptism for repentant people to obtain forgiveness of sins, and he went through the whole country bordering the Jordan River.  It was just as is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah:  Listen to this voice crying our in the desert, 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his path straight!  The valleys will be filled and the mountains and hills made low.  Everything crooked will be made straight and the rough paths smooth;  and every human being will see the salvation of God!'

What The Blind Sees

As Jesus moved on from there, two blind men followed him, shouting, "Son of David, help us!"  When he was about to enter the house, the blind men caught up with him, and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do what you want?"  They answered, "Yes, sir!"

Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, "As you have believed, so let it be."  And their eyes were opened.  Then Jesus gave them a stern warning, "Be careful that no one knows about this."  Bu as soon as they went away, they spread the news about him through the whole area.

Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will ener the kingdom fo heaven, but the one who does the will of my heavenly Father.

"So then, anyone who hears these words of mine, and acts accordingly, is like a wise man, who built his house on rock.  The rain poured, the rivers flooded, and the wind blew and struck that house, but it did not collapse because it was built on rock.  But anyone who hears these words of mine, and does not act accordingly, is like a fool who built his house on sand.  The rain poured, the rivers flooded, and the wind blew and struck that house;  it collapsed, and what a terrible fall that was!"

Our Bountiful God

From there Jesus went to the shore of Lake Galilee, and then went up into the hills, where he sat down.  Great crowds came to him, bringing the dumb, the blind, the lame, the crippled, and many with other infirmities.  The people carried them to the feet of Jesus, and he healed them.  All were astonished when they saw the dumb speaking, the lame walking, the crippled healed, and the blind able to see; and they glorified the God of Israel.

Jesus called his disciples and said to them, "I am filled with compassion for these people; they have already followed me for three days and now have nothing to eat.  I do not want to send them away fasting, ro they may faint on the way."  His disciples said to him, "And where shall we find enough bread in this wilderness to feed such a crowd?"  Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?"  They answered, "Seven, adn a few small fish."

So Jesus ordered the people to sit on the ground.  Then he took the seven loaves and the small fish and gave thanks to God.  He broke them and gave them to his disciples, who distributed them to the people.

They all ate and were satisfied, and the leftover broken pieces filled seven wicker baskets.

At that time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and made them known to little ones.  Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.  I have been given all things by my Father, so that no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son, and he to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."

Then Jesus turned to his disciples and said to them privately, "Fortunate are you to see what you see, for I tell you that many prophets and kings would have liked to see what you see, but did not see it and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it."

Luke 10:21-24

"Lord, grant that knowing You means following You all my life."

Friends Who Pray

From bitsofyarn.wordpress.com

When Jesus entered Capernaum, an army captain approached him to ask his help, "Sir, my servant lies sick  at home.  He is paralysed and suffers terribly."  Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him."

The captain answered, "I am not worthy to have you under my roof.  Just give an order and my boy will be healed.  For I myself, a junior officer, give orders to my soldiers.  And if I say to one, 'Go!' he goes;  and if  say to another, 'Come!' he comes;  and if I say to my servant, 'Do this!' he does it."

When Jesus heard this he was astonished, and said to those who were following him, "I tell you, I have not found such faith in Israel.  I say to you, many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob at the feast in the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew 8:5-11

"Lord, I pray for the intentions of my family, friends and co-workers.  Hear their petitions and send Your grace and blessings upon them.  Amen."

A Journal Of Joy

From nextlevelvision.com

The days are coming when I shall fulfil the promise that I made in favor of Israel and Judah.

In those days and at that time I will cause to sprout the shoot of righteousness from David's line;  he will practice justice and righteousness in the land.  In those days Judah will experience salvation and Jerusalem will live in safety.  He will be called Yahweh-Our-Righteousness.

Jeremiah 33:14-16

"Jesus, fill me with hope that the fulfilment of Your promises are on the way."

Don't Just Be Merry

Then he showed me the river of life, clear as crystal, gushing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.  In the middle of the city, on both sides of the river are the trees of life producing fruit twelve times, once each month, the leaves of which are for healing the nations.

No longer will there be a curse, the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the City and God's servants will live in his presence.  They will see his face and his name will be on their foreheads.  There will be no more night.  They will not need the light of lamp or sun for God himself will be their light and the will reign forever.

Then the angel said to me, "These words are sure and true;  the Lord God who inspires the prophets has sent his angel to show his servants what must happen soon."

"I am coming soon!  Happy are those who keep the prophetic words of this book."

Revelation 22:1-7

"Lord, let me express my love this season through acts of generosity."
